The stunning scenery is to be seen, from rolling hills and open countryside in the west to the gentle valleys and picturesque Berwickshire coastline in the east. The region is defined not only it’s landscape as it is by its spellbinding abbeys, such as  Melrose, Jedburgh, New Abbey awe-inspiring stately homes, Drumlanrigh & castles,  Floors Castle Kelso, close to home Hermitage & Caerlaverock  castles & the time-honoured m  & truly unique Common Ridings, local to us is Langholm Common Riding, held the last Friday in July each year.  These lands also inspired the great works of literary greats as Sir Walter Scott and John Buchan.

Pheasant Lodge is situated between UNESCO World Heritage Site The Lake District and UNESCO World Heritage Site Northumberland National Parks,  close to the Scottish Border, therefore there is no shortage of this to do, providing an opportunity for many outdoor pursuits. The area steeped in Viking & Roman history & stories of old, with beautiful rugged, landscape & fells, ideal for walks, cycling & flying tours which are all fully accessible within a short drive. However, the immediate area has a distinctive Border character of its own & is steep in a very turbulent history, of the #Border Reivers, remains of which can still be seen today the many castles, Pele towers & fortifications.                                                                     

UNESCO World Heritage Site Hadrians Wall is a short drive, with an array of archaeological remains, Lanercost Priory & Tea Room,  Roman Forts of Birdoswald, Vindolanda & Chesters & Museum

Just a short drive to Carlisle the ‘Great Border City’ is well worth a visit, exploring the Cathedral & grounds, Castle or Tullie House Museum many exciting exhibitions.

 Carlisle has many attractions to keep you occupied during your visit; from taking a tour of the famous Carlisle Castle to browsing the Lanes shopping centre for some retail therapy. The city centre is well renowned for its nightlife (and daylife!) , The Old Firestation, The Thin White Duke, Dutch Uncle bars & many restaurants. Carlisle is also the perfect gateway for exploring the rest of Cumbria, with regular train and bus connections to the Carlisle to Settle, Edinburgh & Glasgow &n the Lake District.

Cycles can be hired locally from ‘Bike Seven’ on a daily or weekly basis, we can arrange this for you and have them waiting on your arrival, & secure storage is provided for you. You can explore the Border Reivers Cycle route where you can, explore this fascinating history region on The Reivers Trail, you will also encounter walkers and horse riders along the way.. Just 20 minutes drive is Bailey Mill riding & pony trekking centre, where you can trek in the wild Border forests of the Debatable Lands. Or you may want to learn to ride, lessons can be booked, Bailey Mill can provide a pony for the day, which includes horse management, a lesson & forest trek.

If you prefer cities Carlisle and Newcastle have much to offer.  Carlisle has a castle, a cathedral and Tullie House museum and art gallery.  Newcastle an hour’s drive away has seen significant development in recent years, especially around the quayside.  The acclaimed Millennium Bridge connecting Newcastle and Gateshead allows people to walk from Newcastle to the Baltic Art Gallery and the Sage Gateshead music venue.  A short drive away in Gateshead is the Metro Centre shopping centre.
